At Kite Group, we specialise in fabricating and supplying a wide range of safety gates designed to suit diverse environments – from rail infrastructure and substations to warehouses, rooftops, and access ladders.
This quick guide outlines all our stock gate solutions, their key features, and where they are best installed. Whether you’re after corrosion resistance, height control, or adjustable access, Kite Group has a gate for the job.
Half Height Gates – Controlled Access on the Ground
Despite the name, our Half Height Gates and Full Height Gates both measure 1100mm high, allowing them to blend into a modular Ball Standard Handrail System. The reason we call them Half Height is because these lighter gates feature a toprail and kneerail but do not have the kick plate provided in the Full Height Gate (see below). Because of this, our Half Height Gates are best suited for use on the ground. They are great for guiding personnel flow without obstructing the entire view or airflow.
Ideal for:
Warehouse floors, corridors
Ground level maintenance areas
Docks, Rail infrastructure, Airports etc
Key Benefits:
Lightweight yet robust
Lower cost than Full Height Gates
Self-closing mechanism
Compatible with existing handrail systems
Full Height Gates – Maximum Safety at Height
Our Full Height Self Closing Gates are the only compliant gates to be used at height. This is because our Full Height Gates have built-in kickplate which is required on elevated handrail systems. Like the Half Height gates, they come with a ball standard attached, allowing them to fit seamlessly into a modular Ball Standard system.
Ideal for:
Top of stairs
Mezzanine floors
Any elevated walkway
Key Benefits:
Galvanised finish to resist corrosion
Features toprail, kneerail and kickplate for added security
Self-closing mechanism
Fit seamlessly into a Ball Standard Handrail system with full compliance
Adjustable Width Gates – One Gate, Any Opening
While our stock Half Height and Full Height Gates have a standard 800mm wide opening, our Adjustable Width Gates offer total flexibility. Perfect for when exact dimensions aren’t known during planning, or when working with legacy infrastructure where tolerances may vary. The self-closing gate is supplied with an elective slotted (lockable) slam plate and can be tensioned by tweaking the bolt head.
Ideal for:
Retrofit projects
Platform access points
Handrail access points
Ladder safety access
Key Benefits:
Easy to adjust on site
Maintains structural integrity
Rapid installation — ideal for fast-paced projects
TopFix Gates – Perfect for Roof Edge Safety
TopFix gates are specifically engineered to mount directly to the top of TopFix handrail posts. They are a modular, rivet-fixed access solution designed to fit seamlessly with the TopFix Roof-edge Protection System. As they are designed for installation at height, they feature built-in kickplate to ensure compliance with British Standards.
Ideal For:
Roof perimeters
Coping stones
Parapet walls
Corrugated Metal Roof Services
Key Benefits:
Sold as a kit
Integrates with modular TopFix system
Kickplate compliant with Safety at Height regulations
Freestanding Roof Edge Gates – Non-Penetrative Safety
Much like our TopFix gate, our Freestanding Roof Edge Gates integrate with freestanding roof edge protection systems to create secure access points without needing to penetrate the roof surface. For added security, gate access points are shored up with a double weight set to provide enhanced safety at these critical junctures. Like TopFix, these gates feature a kickplate for compliance with work at height.
Ideal For:
Green roofs and solar panel installations
Rooftop maintenance where drilling is not an option
Rooftops requiring temporary safety solutions
Benefits:
Weighted base system – no drilling required
Maintains roof membrane integrity
Integration with Freestanding Roof Edge guardrail system
GRP Gates – Non-Conductive & Corrosion Resistant
GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) gates are perfect for high-risk environments where corrosion, electrical conductivity, or maintenance constraints are an issue. Unlike the previous products features in this blog, our GRP gates are all custom built to your specifications, creating a fully bespoke solution.
Ideal For:
Substations and switchyards
Chemical plants and wastewater treatment
Marine and coastal sites
Key Benefits:
Non-conductive – ideal for electrical safety
Will not rust or corrode, low maintenance
Up to 75% more lightweight than steel, saving on transportation costs
Completely tailored to your requirements
