TopFix Roof Edge Protection FAQs

Kite’s TopFix Roof Edge Protection System is a permanent roof guardrail solution designed to protect personnel working in roof maintenance, inspection, and access zones. The system is a fixed roof edge protection system specifically engineered for metal profile and standing seam roofs, accommodating roof pitches of up to 45 degrees.

TopFix provides a long-term safety solution to prevent falls and slips at roof edges, ensuring compliance and ongoing protection without ongoing adjustments. Unlike traditional freestanding roof edge guardrails that rely on counterweights—which can be impractical or unsuitable for angled and pitched roofs—TopFix delivers a secure, fixed alternative that is both reliable and structurally efficient for demanding roof environments.

01) What is the height of the post in TopFix Rooftop Guardrail system and what's the space between the horizontal rails?

The Kite TopFix system is a fixed roof edge protection system designed specifically for metal profile and standing seam roofs with pitches of up to 45 degrees. It provides a permanent safety solution to prevent falls and slips at roof edges.

02) Can TopFix be installed on a flat roof with no metal profile?

No. The TopFix system is secured using rivets that fix the base plates into the roof structure. These fixings are not suitable for flat roofs, as they could compromise the waterproof integrity of the roof.

03) Does Kite Group provide installation?

Kite Group is a supply-only company and does not carry out installations. However, we can recommend approved installers in your region if required.

04) Is the TopFix system waterproof?

Yes. The system is supplied with waterproof fixing rivets and sealing tape, which enhance weatherproofing when installed correctly on metal roofs.

05) Is the system load tested?

Yes. The TopFix system is fully tested, and load test tables can be provided upon request.

06) How is the TopFix system installed?

The system is permanently fixed to metal profile roofs, copings, or parapet walls. It is supplied as a modular kit, allowing for quick and straightforward installation with no on-site welding or bending required. It is suitable for angled and corrugated metal roofs.

07) What materials are used in the TopFix system?

The system is manufactured from galvanised steel.
It includes:

The system is designed to carry a minimum of two horizontal guardrails. If additional guardrails are required, please contact us for advice.

08) What is the post spacing for the TopFix system?

Posts are installed at maximum 3-metre centres, in line with BS EN 13374 requirements.

09) Is an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual provided?

Yes. A full O&M manual is supplied, detailing assembly, operation, inspection, and maintenance requirements.

10) Does TopFix only work with 48.3mm tubes?

Yes. Like our freestanding roof edge protection system, TopFix is designed to work exclusively with 48.3mm outer diameter (D-size) tubes.

11) Is the TopFix system customisable?

The system is designed to be permanent and can be extended if required. However, because installation involves drilling and sealing, we do not recommend removing the system once installed.

The system is typically supplied in galvanised finish. Tubes can be powder-coated in high-visibility colours if required, with an additional 3–4 weeks lead time.
