Galvanised Handrail System
Dunalastair Dam
Kite Group installed galvanised handrail systems at Dunalastair Dam, providing robust protection and secure walkways for inspections, maintenance, and site access.
Project Overview
The Dunalastair Dam, built in 1933 as part of the Tummel Hydroelectric Power Scheme, plays a key role in supplying water to the River Tummel aqueduct and on to the Tummel Bridge Power Station.
Sitting on the man-made reservoir of Dunalastair Water, the dam and its aqueduct system remain vital to Scotland’s hydroelectric infrastructure, while also forming part of a picturesque landscape rich in wildlife and natural heritage.
Did You Know?
When first proposed in the 1930s, the hydroelectric development faced opposition from locals concerned about its impact on tourism and the natural environment.
Decades later, the scheme is regarded as a benchmark for how renewable energy can integrate with the landscape while preserving ecological value.
Kite’s Contribution
Kite Group supplied and installed galvanised handrail systems to secure the dam’s walkways, inspection points, and roof-edge areas.
Safety First: Two-ball tubular level standards were fitted along solid edges and service walkways.
Inspector Access: Service points were reinforced to protect staff during inspections and routine maintenance.
Durability: The galvanised steel design ensures long-lasting protection against the elements in a demanding environment.
By delivering a robust handrail solution, Kite improved safety for all those maintaining and operating this historic hydroelectric site.
