Galvanised Tubes & Clamps | Ball Standard Handrail System

Edinburgh Airport Safety Systems

Kite Group supplied galvanised handrails and a blast screen at Edinburgh Airport, protecting staff, vehicles, and infrastructure across safety-critical airside areas.

Project Overview

Edinburgh Airport is one of the UK’s busiest airports, requiring strict compliance with safety standards across airside operations. To meet these requirements, Kite Group supplied two distinct galvanised handrail systems, each designed to tackle different safety-critical challenges on site.

Kite’s Contribution

1. Two-Ball Standard Handrail System with Wire Mesh Infill Panels

This system was designed to provide safe perimeters for airport staff and authorised personnel:

This solution maintained compliance with airport safety standards while offering a neat, unobtrusive appearance.

2. Airport Blast Screen System (Tube Clamp Handrail System)

To counteract the effects of jet blast and air displacement, Kite supplied a galvanised tube clamp system fitted with heavy-duty expanded mesh:

  • Debris Protection: Shields people, vehicles, and infrastructure from jet thrust impact.

  • Secure Installation: Mounted on concrete barriers for maximum stability.

  • Flexible Design: Modular clamp fittings allowed rapid installation and adaptability to site conditions.

This configuration plays a crucial role in protecting both staff and assets in high-risk operational zones.

Results

Both systems were delivered on schedule and met airport authority compliance requirements, ensuring maximum durability and safety across Edinburgh Airport’s operational environment.
