Forth Ports Leith Project

LOCATION

Leith Edinburgh, UK

INDUSTRY

Maritime & Logistics

PROJECT DETAILS

The Port of Leith is Scotland’s largest enclosed deep-water port, handling vessels up to 50,000 dead-weight tonnes. It has been a key maritime hub since the 14th century and features modern facilities like quays and mobile cranes.
Historically, it was a major trading port in the 18th century. Located less than 3 miles from Edinburgh city centre, it has excellent access to road and rail networks, making it ideal for North Sea shipping.
The Port of Leith has introduced various safety measures to ensure the well-being of its workers and visitors. These measures encompass traffic management and near-water safety. To effectively address these areas, the port has invested in handrails, crash barriers, and anti-slip flooring across major sections of its facilities.

DID YOU KNOW?

In the 18th century, the port was so busy and bustling that it was said you could walk across the harbour on the decks of the ships without getting your feet wet! This gives you an idea of just how crowded and lively the port used to be.

KITE'S PART OF THE PROJECT

Kite Group significantly enhanced the safety and accessibility of the Port of Leith by supplying Galvanised Two Ball Standard handrail, Self-Coloured Open Mesh Flooring, and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) Walkway systems. Additionally, Kite provided a Crash Barrier System to protect units and handrails where moving vehicles are present.
These installations were integral to the port’s safety improvements, offering secure, slip-resistant pathways for both workers and visitors. The galvanised handrails provide robust support, while the open mesh flooring and GRP walkways ensure durable, anti-slip surfaces. The crash barrier system adds an extra layer of protection, enhancing overall safety and operational efficiency at the port.
