PROJECT DETAILS

Sainsbury’s is a prominent UK supermarket. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 mandates that Sainsbury’s ensures the health, safety, and welfare of its employees while at work. This means Sainsbury’s must implement appropriate safety measures and conduct regular risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.

As part of this commitment, the Sainsbury’s branch in Middlesbrough focused on improving safety on their mezzanine floor. The goal was to ensure safe access for engineers and technicians who routinely perform checks.

DID YOU KNOW?

Middlesbrough’s Tees Transporter Bridge, completed in 1911, spans the River Tees and connects the town to Port Clarence. Unlike conventional bridges, it uses a suspended gondola to carry vehicles and pedestrians. A symbol of industrial heritage, it remains one of the few operational transporter bridges globally.

KITE'S PART OF THE PROJECT

Kite took pride in enhancing the safety of Sainsbury’s staff and engineers by implementing our Two Ball Standard Handrail System. The installed system uses tubular standards with Top Mounting and Side-Palm base plates. It also featured Galvanised Clamp fittings for bends and tube extensions, as well as Galvanised Kick Plates and Return Bends. The galvanised handrail system is resilient, capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions such as salt, humidity, and prevents rust or corrosion. Moreover, its low-maintenance metal finish, protected by a zinc coating, ensures durability over decades.
